Cleveland’s Lauren Davis rolled past Montenegro’s Danka Kovinic’ in straight sets and meets Slovenian Kaja Jovan for the third time during their career on Wednesday morning.
Kaja Juvan vs Lauren Davis
Davis is a -140 favorite to win Wednesday’s matchup, and while I believe she will win this matchup, the better bet with slightly better value is Over 21.5 (-120) at PointsBet Ohio. The ladies have split their previous two meetings – Juvan beat her on clay, but Davis took her out on grass.
Neither has any overwhelming weapons, but they both return well, leading to several breaks of serve from both players. The balls are heavier, and the courts are much slower than the summer hard court events, and that leads me to believe this match will go the distance with Davis winning in three tough sets. Play Over 21.5 (-120) at PointsBet and Davis to win (-140) at Caesars Ohio.
Bernarda Pera vs. Xiyu Wang
Wang is a -150 favorite at DraftKings Ohio, while PointsBet offers a great price on the 22.5-game total (+100).
Pera snapped a five-game losing streak with her confidence-building straight-set upset victory Monday over No. 16 seed Veronika Kudermetova. Wang needed a third-set tiebreak to eke out her win over Viktoria Kusmova and now meets an American coming off a huge upset.
I’m unsure if Pera can win this match, but the slower playing conditions suit her, and the pro-American crowd gives her a slight edge. This one is going three sets, and my best bet is Over 22.5 (+100) at PointsBet.
Magda Linette vs. Jennifer Brady
Brady is a -190 favorite (Caesars) with a 21.5 game total (-120) at PointsBet when the two ladies meet in the 2nd round Wednesday.
Brady has a 3-1 lifetime mark vs. Linette, but those results were three years ago. Brady has played just eight matches since 2021, going 4-4 on hardcourts with a straight-set win Monday over Kimberly Birrell. The Brady serve is still a weapon, but she faces one of the best returners on tour with a 35.5% break of serve rate on the hard stuff this season and will challenge the big-serving American.
Linette thumped Aliaksandra Sasnovich in straight sets on Monday but faces a much stiffer test against the hard-serving American, but she has a strong serve and a bigger return game that should allow her to win at least one set. Over 21.5 -120 at PointsBet is your play for this match.
Coco Gauff vs. Mirra Andreeva
Gauff is a -425 favorite (Caesars) with a 19.5-game total (-120) at DraftKings.
This a tough matchup for Coco. Andreeva is a teen sensation from Russia ranked No. 67 in the world on a limited playing schedule while playing in her first US Open. Gauff has been playing great tennis this summer, winning a pair of titles, but needed three sets Monday to get past Germany’s Laura Siegemund, and she faces a tougher foe with a 7-1 hardcourt mark this season.
The pressure is clearly on Gauff on Wednesday Andreeva reached the third round in Paris before falling in three sets to Gauff and reached the 4th round at Wimbledon. Gauff needed three sets to beat Andreeva in Paris, and 19.5 games is too low. Take Gauff Over 19.5 (-120) at DraftKings.
