Ohio Sportsbook Operators See Rise in March Betting Handle and Revenue

March was a better month for the Ohio sportsbook operators as the 17 Buckeye State licensed bookmakers saw a rise to their February betting handle and revenue, according to a Monday report published by the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC).

Ohio online and retail shops handled $737,228,851 in total betting receipts, up from the $638,822,345 Buckeye State gamblers legally wagered during February. That raises the total handle to $2,489,384,580 since sports betting was legalized on January 1, 2023.

FanDuel Continues to Lead Online Buckeye State Betting Handle

NYC-based FanDuel and its partner Belterra Park took in a Buckeye State-leading $258,541,665 in total accepted betting receipts. That outpaced their nearest competitor DraftKings ($228,414,549), Tipico ($54,463,544), BetMGM ($53,954,207), and Barstool ($37,918,746) round out the top five online sportsbooks March betting handle.

FanDuel, DraftKings and Everyone Else in March Online Revenue

Ohio taxed the collective online sportsbooks on $92,325,159 in March revenue, and no other operator in the Buckeye State earned more in revenue and paid more taxes than FanDuel and DraftKings. The top five in online revenue include.

Promotional Wagers Drastically Decline in March

For the third-consecutive month, there was a stark decline in promotional betting credits and sign-up bonuses offered by the sportsbooks to attract new customers. Ohio sportsbook companies offered $44,449,198 in promotions during March. That was down from the $59,147,334 doled out in February and well below the $319,967,895 the books offered during January.

Retail Sportsbooks Surge in March

The 14 Ohio retail sportsbooks saw a spike in the March handle, collecting $21,928,874 in sports betting handle. That exceeded the $17,710,580 February numbers but fell slightly short of the $22,986,191 January sports betting handle.

Hollywood Columbus and its sportsbook provider Barstool led the way with $4,078,977 in Buckeye State wagers. Hard Rock Cincinnati (Seminole Hard Rock Digital) took in $3,365,966, followed by Jack Cleveland (betJack) $2,473,414, Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway (Barstool) $1,770,371 and MGM at Northfield Park (BetMGM) $1,752,632 round out the top five most profitable brick-and-mortar sportsbooks.
