Strategic Approach
When you are going to use this promo, before you even start handicapping, you should have a game plan with regard to the betting approach. If you have a strong opinion about any aspect of the game, you have an opportunity to make a sizable wager with no worries.
For example, let’s say that you love the Bengals -2.5 on the road. You could wager $200 on Cincinnati, sit back, and enjoy the game with no sweating necessary. If you win, you take down a nice payday with your cash winnings added to your $200 payout in bonus bets.
Even if you lose, you will have the $200 in betting credit, so you essentially break even. You could alternately take a more conservative approach and make a smaller wager. If you bet less than $200, you know that you will come out ahead no matter what.
Public Perception vs. Reality
Now that Ohio sports betting is easily accessible to everyone, there is a good bit of unsophisticated money in the betting pools. It is easy to boil it down to “Bengals good, Browns bad” because of the perceptions that have developed over recent years.
In reality, the gap may not be as wide as some people think. Yes, the Bengals have an explosive offense led by young players who have gained experience. They also had the 5th ranked defense in the NFL a year ago, so they have no weaknesses.
On the other side of the field, the Browns will have Deshaun Watson for a full season for the first time. Nick Chubb is one of the top running backs in the league, and Watson will be throwing to the likes of Amari Cooper, Elijah Moore, Donovan Peeples-Jones, and tight end David Njoku.
The Browns are playing at home, they are getting points, and Joe Burrow was sidelined from July 27 to August 30 with a strained right calf. His mobility is a sneaky asset, and calf injuries are notoriously slow to heal.
Our Selection
Over the course of the season, we are quite certain that the Bengals will prove to be a better team than the Browns. However, hope springs eternal, and Watson and the rest of the Browns will be highly motivated for the opener in front of the home fans.
We are not going to go out on a limb with the Browns, but we can’t back the Bengals with confidence, either. However, there are a lot of betting options, and we have found an angle we like.
You can get -115 odds on Amari Cooper’s total receiving yards over 55.5 at DraftKings, and that is our selection for the Bengals-Browns game on Sunday.
