  • 1998: Construction workers break ground on the arena site
  • 2000: Nationwide Arena opens for the Columbus Blue Jackets’ inaugural season. The first game saw Columbus fall 5-3 to the Chicago Blackhawks
  • 2003: Tragedy occurs at Nationwide as 13-year-old Brittanie Cecil is struck in the head by a hockey puck that had deflected into the stands. She died as a result of her injuries two days after the incident. This led the NHL to mandate safety netting in all arenas.
  • 2007: Nationwide Arena hosts the NHL Entry Draft.
  • 2009: Nationwide Arena hosts the first playoff game in Blue Jackets history.
  • 2015: The NHL All-Star Game is played at Nationwide Arena.
  • 2018: The semifinals and championship of the 2018 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament are played at Nationwide Arena.
  • March 2023: As one of the host sites for the 2023 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, fans at Nationwide Arena witnessed the #16 seed Fairleigh Dickinson University upset the #1 seed Purdue University, marking only the second time a #16 seed had advanced out of the Round of 64 in the tournament’s history.
  • August 2023: Fanatics opens a retail sportsbook across the street from Nationwide Arena.
